Fatigue
Fatigue is a lack of alertness, or drowsiness, that can be caused by lack of sleep. Fatigue impacts driver behaviour and our risk of being involved in a crash because driving while fatigued impairs alertness, decision making and reaction time. Research suggests more than a third of people have driven while fatigued, and younger drivers are much more likely to report driving fatigued. Re:act 2021 aims to educate young Australian drivers about the risks of ‘driving drowsy’ and to change their behaviour.
18-25s is the age group with the highest incidence of driving while drowsy.
Young drivers share first-hand experiences of fatigue and how their behaviours and awareness around driving fatigued changed after participating in Re:act.
